the vibe

a low-effort chelsea afternoon built around free art, waterfront views, and a long dinner. start in the gallery district at 24th & 11th and wander south through 300+ chelsea galleries (alice's pick is david zwirner's flagship space on 19th st). drop down to fabrique on 14th st for a swedish cardamom bun, then walk west to little island for the downtown skyline. circle back east for a georgian dinner at chama mama and finish with a martini nightcap at cecchi's in the west village.

how to do this walk

late afternoon is the sweet spot, gives you gallery time before they close and puts you at little island around golden hour. take the c/e to 23 st-8 ave and walk west to 24th st & 11th ave. wander south from there through the chelsea gallery district, ducking into anything that looks interesting (most galleries are free, no rsvp; alice's pick is david zwirner's flagship at 519 w 19th st). keep walking south to 14th st and stop at fabrique for a cardamom bun and coffee, takeaway is fine. head west to the hudson river and onto little island for skyline photos and a slow loop, then walk east on 14th st to chama mama for a long georgian dinner (alice's order: the mixed grill plate). cap the night two blocks south at cecchi's, a west village bar and grill, for a martini with a twist (alice notes the pour is generous).
